Samuel Dupont, Biologist, Doctor in Sciences

Botanist, marine and evolutionary biologist, I try to be a specialist in my field and a generalist in my research interests. I am convinced that pluri-disciplinarity approach of the research is the key factor leading to creativity in science.

Main research interests

Biology of regeneration in brittlestars
(Gene expression – immuno-histology - effect of environmental parameters - functional regeneration - sympatric species - Amphiura filiformis – Amphiura chiajei – runt gene - Echinoderms)

I am currently working on genes expression during arm regeneration in echinoderms and consequences on individual fitness and population

Micro- and macro-evolution in marine environment

(Intraspecific diversity from genes to behaviour – adaptation and fitness - microevolution - sympatric speciation - exception to the parsimony principle – cosmopolitism - Echinoderms)

I investigate all these aspects using original models such as brittle-stars and original tools such as bioluminescence. This research also leads to the creation of a new genetic marker for bioluminescent animals.

Data analysis and modelization
(Statistical analysis – qualitative and quantitative data – multivariate analysis – simulation and modelization – genetic analysis)

I have developed expertise in the use of the SAS software. For this reason, I am integrated in diverse researches in very different fields: taxonomy in various groups (insects, molluscs, fish, etc.), genetic psychiatry, psychobiology of the personality, population biology (mites, host/parasitoid system, etc.), etc.
